Robert Lisvane (formerly Robert Rogers) was the Clerk of the House of Commons and Chief Executive of the House of Commons Service of some 2,000 people. As Clerk of the House (the 49th holder of the office since 1363) he was the principal constitutional adviser to the House, drawing on four decades of experience in every aspect of the House’s business. He now sits in the House of Lords as Lord Lisvane, a cross-bencher.
He is the author of the popular and fascinating Parliamentary miscellanies Order! Order! and Who Goes Home? and was the joint author of the respected textbook How Parliament Works, published in eight editions.
