Dr Margaret Shennan was a historian, teacher, writer and expert on Malaya. For ten years she was Principal Lecturer and Head of History at St Martin’s College of Higher Education and also taught European Studies at Lancaster University. She published a number of academic books including Teaching about Europe which won a national award from the Standing Conference of Studies in Education. She held the honorary status of Consultant, European programmes at Lancaster University and was nominated for the 1993 Women of Europe Award.
Her books include the biographies Berthe Morisot: The First Lady of Impressionism and Our Man in Malaya: John Davis, SOE Force 136and Post-War Counter-Insurgency, her autobiography Missee and Out in the Midday Sun: The British in Malaya 1880-1960.
