Bill Laws is a writer and journalist with many years of experience. He worked on a range of newspapers before going freelance and since then has written a number of books on the subjects of walking, Boots, Byways and Blisters (The History Press, 2009); horticultural history 50 Plants that Changed the Course of History (David & Charles, 2010); lifestyle and gardening, Artists’ Gardens (Cassell, 2005); and vernacular architecture The Perfect Country Cottage (Conran Books, 1996) and Home Truths – An Alternative History of Every House (The History Press, 2010).
He has written a follow up volume to the bestselling 50 Plants, 50 Railroads that Changed the Course of History. (David & Charles, 2013). His most recent title RHS Tales from the Tool Shed: The History and Usage of Fifty Gardens Tools (Mitchell Beazley, 2014) is a treasure trove of garden paraphernalia covering everything from the humble spade to architectural ornaments.
